Vanilla Ice and Madonna were one hot couple in the early ’90s. Their relationship didn’t last, but it was one of the most talked-about celebrity couples. Vanilla Ice has now talked about how Madonna proposed to him back in the day.

Vanilla Ice talked about his past relationship with Madonna in a recent iteration of the “Just Jenny With Jenny Hutt” podcast. The rapper called their relationship “crazy” and fast-paced with the diva in control all the time. The former couple dated for eight months after meeting in late 1991.

“I was just like, ‘What?! I thought the guy was supposed to [get down on one knee],’ ‘What do you mean? Wait a minute. This is too fast. I’m just getting started here, and I’m way too young for this!’”

Ice claimed that he was too young and the fiery relationship was a bit overwhelming for her. Madonna getting on her knees to propose him sounds as crazy as it was, the rapper exclaimed. Later on in his life, he thought how insane the exact moment when it all happened was.

Ice was enjoying the popularity of his self-titled album at the time. Due largely to the catchy lead track, “Ice, Ice Baby,” it had become the fastest-selling hip-hop album of all time. Everything began when the material girl went to see the rapper perform live.

On their initial meet-up, Madonna supposedly gave Ice the “sexy eyes.” The rapper thought that she wouldn’t be into a young guy like him but he was wrong. A record exec had confirmed that the “Like a Virgin” singer was not playing coy and that she was, in fact, into him.

They ended on bitter terms, Ice has nothing but good things to say about his ex. He calls her one of the greatest artists the planet has ever seen.
