For many fans, Jon Jones is one of the all-time greats in the history of the UFC. Since 2021, Jones made it obvious he has a target in mind for his UFC return, which some people believe is nothing more than a lofty goal. Now it seems he claimed that he faced a similar situation to Francis Ngannou before his UFC departure.
The topic of Francis Ngannou’s issues with how the UFC paid him was always a sensitive one. Ngannou had support in his endeavours but it was of no avail in the end.
Francis Ngannou eventually stated that he did not feel respected or valued as a free agent in the UFC and that he had even rejected a lucrative offer in order to negotiate a better contract with the company. He felt that his contribution and achievements were not being acknowledged by the UFC and that led to his decision to part ways.
As previously reported, Francis Ngannou officially parted ways with the UFC. Right after that, Dana White claimed that Ngannou turned down a contract that would have made history in the UFC.
While speaking with Sports Illustrated, Jon Jones talked about Francis Ngannou’s UFC departure. Jon Jones claimed that he faced a similar situation to Francis Ngannou before his UFC departure.
“I’m glad that Francis knows his worth. No man has a right to shame another man for fighting for his worth. I was in a very similar situation to Francis as a light heavyweight. I was never happy with my salary. I had to sit out for three years, and I missed a lot of time, but now we’re here. I encourage Francis on his journey, and I wish him all the best. Another company is going to be truly blessed to have him.”
Ngannou was even offered Brock Lesnar level money for fighting Jon Jones. We’ll have to wait and see what’s next in store for Francis Ngannou.
