Shawn Michaels Hints At Julian Edelman Joining WWE Like Pat McAfee

Pat McAfee is well-known for his outstanding work behind the commentary desk on Friday nights for WWE SmackDown. Even before that, he was a punter with the Indianapolis Colts, where he spent eight years. His transition into pro wrestling went smoothly and fans immediately took a liking to him. Now it seems McAfee might have opened the door for yet another ex-NFL star to join the company, as Julian Edelman could be following suit.

Julian Edelman retired from his NFL career in 2021 after spending 11 memorable seasons with the New England Patriots. Following his retirement, many fans have been wondering what’s next in store for the former NFL player.

While quite a few around the NFL have heard rumors of his possible return to the football field, others believe he may get into the entertainment industry in some way. While speaking on a recent episode of the Games with Names podcast, Shawn Michaels joined Julian Edelman and comedian Sam Morril as a guest.

During the conversation, Julian Edelman asked Michaels if he thought he could possibly have. The Heartbreak Kid made it clear that Julian Edelman could easily make his way to WWE, citing Pat McAfee as an example.

“Are you kidding?! We took a punter for heaven’s sake! McAfee. And you, my friend, you know you are way more athletic than McAfee. So, are you kidding me? You’d be a piece of cake, babe.

Julian Edelman then decided to add his own words to the conversation, as Edelman stated that if he were ever to join WWE, he would definitely have to be a heel and nothing else.

“Oh, for sure! Coming from New England, you don’t have a chance. It doesn’t matter where you’re actually from, mister. As far as everyone’s concerned, you’re a New England Patriot, and that’s it. So they’ll boo you out of the building no matter where you go.”

Edelman spent his entire career as a wide receiver, so Michaels might be right on the money with that statement. Regardless, we will have to wait and see whether Edelman ever ends up joining WWE in the future.
