School of Rock was a cult classic. Jack Black played the role of Dewey Finn, a slacker rock guitarist who finds purpose and passion as a substitute teacher at a prep school, where he shapes his students into a rock band. It’s been over 20 years since Black’s breakthrough hit performance. Black has now provided an update on a potential sequel.

School of Rock earned over $130 million at the box office and received acclaim from both critics and fans. Jack Black and his Tenacious D bandmate Kyle Gass were asked about the School of Rock sequel during a recent interview with City Babs of SiriusXM radio. When Caity Babs questioned if he had plans for a School of Rock 2 or a Tenacious D sequel, Jack Black cracked jokes. Gass chimed in, saying the two sequels are being done as one project, “It’s a hybrid, ‘School of D.’

Yup. Both of them. Breaking news. We’re thinking about doing both of those.

Jack Black started his acting career by appearing in television advertisements and tiny roles as a youngster in the 1980s. A steady increase of projects for Black during the 1990s included The X-Files, Picket Fences, Northern Exposure, Airborne, Mars Attacks!, and Enemy of the State. Black’s career didn’t really take off into leading man territory until his role as an overly enthusiastic record store employee in the 2000 romantic comedy High Fidelity, which was directed by Stephen Frears.
