Damar Hamlin has been in the news for all the wrong reasons after he experienced a cardiac arrest on the field during Monday night’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. People from all over the world have been showing their support for the young NFL star since the tragic incident. In fact, Shawne Merriman believes Hamlin’s injury is a wakeup call for other NFL players.

Damar Hamlin has been in a critical health situation since Monday and remains hospitalized even now. While speaking to TMZ Sports, former NFL star Shawne Merriman talked about Hamlin’s injury. He stated that the injury will have a lasting effect on the minds of Hamlin’s teammates and that it is a wakeup call for many.

“It’s going to be playing in the minds of a lot of them. It was a wake-up call for a lot of people on just the possibilities of how violent this game could be,” Shawne said.

I think football is the greatest sport in the world but we also understand that there’s some heavy risk in that.”

Shawne Merriman also said the incident could show fans that players are humans and not some kind of superhumans who are impervious to damage and injuries.

“I think also it brought a human side. A lot of these players really get looked at as superhuman. This is a human on the ground that could possibly be fighting for his life.”
