Black Adam was theatrically released in the United States on October 21, 2022, by Warner Bros. Pictures. Critics appreciated Dwayne Johnson and Pierce Brosnan’s performances but criticized the screenplay and villain, and the action sequences drew mixed responses. The Rock recently blamed his own decision to delay the release of Black Adam.

After a prolonged development and pre-production period, “Black Adam” opened in theaters in the United States on October 21. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who plays the main character in the new film, takes responsibility for the film’s delay. “I did have that option when I started discussing this with Warner Bros. almost 15 years ago,” the former WWE Champion told The New York Times.

The Great One noted that the studio gave him the option of either playing the heroic Shazam or the villainous Black Adam.

I appreciated the mythology behind the characters and their connection. But I always knew in my heart that I was Black Adam.

Johnson revealed that he read the project’s original script “six or seven years ago.” However, he was immediately concerned since it included the origin stories of both Shazam and Black Adam in the confines of a 100-minute production. “It was convoluted, and it wasn’t serving them both properly,” Johnson said.

I made a call to the people running Warner Bros. at the time and I said we should separate these two so they could tell their own origin stories, and that’s what we did.

Despite having Johnson linked to the role of Black Adam, Warner Bros. decided to develop a Shazam-related film first. It was released in 2019 and starred Zachary Levi. Johnson said that his proposal for two films “prolonged and delayed the process” of getting his Black Adam project to the big screen. “It worked against me in the moment, because they went with ‘Shazam!’ first,” he said with a laugh.

I said, ‘OK, not a problem.’

Black Adam grossed $7.6 million from Thursday night previews, the most of Johnson’s career and more than Shazam!’s $5.9 million. It’s a good sign for Johnson’s career in Hollywood. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Thirsty.
