Tom Cruise’s attorney Bert Fields died in August after a legendary career. He represented Michael Jackson, James Cameron, Warren Beatty, Mike Nichols, Jeffrey Katzenberg, David Geffen, Jerry Bruckheimer, The Beatles, and Madonna. Tom recently sent out an emotional video to honor the late attorney at his memorial service.

Tom Cruise is paying tribute to his late lawyer and friend Bert Fields by telling an incredible story about how they first met. The ‘Top Gun’ star made a video statement for Bert’s memorial service in which he revealed how he first met Bert at a dinner party with Dustin Hoffman. Tom claims he was sitting next to Bert and they struck up a conversation.

Bert was one of the most fascinating guys Tom had ever met, and it didn’t take long for Tom to notice something different about him. The conversation was so engaging that Tom stated that they discussed the history and shared stories. Bert told Tom that he was Dustin’s lawyer, and Tom hired him right away.

The video message is quite emotional, with Tom outlining what made Bert such a great person to be around. Bert clearly had a significant impact on Tom’s life, and not simply as his attorney. Bert filed several high-profile cases on Tom’s behalf, including a $100 million lawsuit in 2001 when a magazine wrongly claimed Cruise was gay, citing an X-rated film as proof.

Tom’s video was shown at Bert’s memorial service on October 2 at Broad Stage in Santa Monica, where Dustin and Katzenberg spoke in person. May his soul Rest In Peace.
