Actor Danny Masterson was meted with rape allegations last year. He then claimed that the anti-Scientology campaign led by Leah Remini is a huge driving force behind the allegations in his ongoing case. Judge Charlaine Olmedo established a fundamental ground rule last week during a pre-trial hearing in the Danny Masterson rape case.

The church’s role will be a significant focus of the trial, which starts with jury selection on Tuesday. The 46-year-old former “That ’70s Show” star is accused of three counts of forcible rape. He could receive a sentence ranging from 45 years to life in prison. According to Variety, Judge Charlaine Olmedo made a statement about the trial.

This is not going to become a trial on Scientology.

All three of Masterson’s accusers were Scientologists at the time of the alleged assaults, and Masterson himself is a Scientologist. Olmedo has said she will let some testimony on Scientology and its practices, especially if it sheds light on why the accusers held off calling the police — for two of them, by more than a decade — and how.
