Halifax Regional Police appear to have apprehended a suspect in the murder of top-tier battle rapper and international icon Pat Stay. According to AllHipHop, the HRP has been actively hunting for the person who stabbed the artist on Sunday, September. 4 while partying at the Yacht Club Social, Bar & Distillery in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

They were tight-lipped in their latest statement, simply noting they felt the gruesome death was not random. Someone has now been identified and detained. According to a press release issued Saturday afternoon, police have arrested but have not yet prosecuted a 31-year-old man in connection with the homicide death on the 1600 block of Lower Water Street.

This comes a day after police asked the public for assistance in locating a cell phone believed to have been discovered by detectives near Prince and Lower Water Streets following the fatal stabbing. According to Global News Canada, there has been no information on whether the individual seized by the HRP is connected to the phone.

The arrest comes only one day before a memorial service in his honor. Family, friends, and peers in the commercial and fight rap communities are expected to pay respect to the guy who Eminem called “one of the best battlers of all time” and Drake called “one of his favorite rappers ever.”

District 5, Dear Friend, Side Hustle Bar, Lake City Cider, Celtic Corner, New Scotland Brewing Co., and the Whiskey’s Lounge will host a tribute for the deceased 36-year-old on Sunday, September. 11, from 7 p.m. to midnight.

“Please join his family and friends in a quiet gathering as we celebrate a Dartmouth Legend.”

If fans are unable to attend, the Hip-Hop community is urging everyone he touched to give to his GoFundMe, where he is seeking to raise $800,000 to support his family after his death. The organizers raised $203,011 six days after they went live.

Stay is survived by his wife and two young children, Alaura Stay and Calvin Royce Stay called the Sucka-Free Boss. Hopefully, the suspect will be charged shortly. What are your thoughts on the rapper’s death? Let us know in the comments. Stay tuned to Thirsty for more updates.
