The Crown is a television historical drama series about Queen Elizabeth II’s reign. Princess Diana debuted on “The Crown” last season, played by Emma Corrin, and the next Season 5 portrays Elizabeth Debicki as Diana and covers the years leading up to her death in 1997. It was recently reported that filming has been halted following the death of Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 96.

Following the death of Her Majesty, filming on the award-winning Netflix series The Crown has been suspended. Today in Barcelona, Spain, a scene portraying Princess Diana’s tragic death in Paris in August 1997 was scheduled to be filmed. However, filming for the sixth series of the show has been halted for at least a week as a result of the Queen’s death on Thursday.

The monarch died peacefully at Balmoral after Buckingham Palace announced she was “under medical supervision” as doctors expressed worry over her health. While the fifth series of the drama will air this autumn, filming on the sixth series is already underway, with Elizabeth Debicki playing the late Princess of Wales and Imelda Staunton playing the late Queen Elizabeth II.

However, SER Catalunya stated that scenes depicting Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed’s deaths in a car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997, were being suspended. The set, which was built in a Barcelona district, had been altered to look like a Parisian street with French road signs. A reporter for the outlet shared a video and photographs of the set, which appears to be deserted.

The decision to not film today comes after the Netflix show announced a week-long hiatus in production. Filming was set to begin in Majorca next week and last until late October following the casting of extras for the upcoming series – but plans were altered when the Queen died.

Netflix apparently prepared a strategy, dubbed Operation London Bridge like the Queen’s official funeral plan, to detail what the production company for The Crown would do in the event of her passing. Stephen Daldry, one of the show’s creators, stated when the show first premiered in 2016 that the cast would likely stop production, adding, “It would be a simple tribute and a mark of respect. She’s a global figure, and it’s what we should do.”

Locations in Palma and Andratx are rumored to be under consideration for the sixth series. It will focus on Charles and Camilla’s romance as well as William’s university studies. The drama’s writer, Peter Morgan, was quoted after the Queen’s death was revealed late yesterday/on Thursday.

The Crown is a love letter to her and I’ve nothing to add for now, just silence and respect. I expect we will stop filming out of respect too.

Season five of the popular series was filmed on the Balearic island last year, with Sant Elm beach on the West Coast and the Port of Soller among the locations. The entire world is in mourning right now. May Her Majesty’s soul rest in peace. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Thirsty.
