Tom Hanks is a legendary actor who has played a number of iconic roles. There have been persistent rumors that Tom was chosen for the role of the adult Peter Pan in Steven Spielberg’s famous 1991 movie Hook. However, Hanks recently addressed and refuted the long-held claims.

Hanks recently made a guest appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, where host Josh Horowitz encouraged him to participate in a rapid-fire question-and-answer session. Hanks answered several queries about roles he had previously turned down.

Horowitz then asked him about the claim that Spielberg originally wanted to cast him as the older Peter Pan in Hook. To which he quickly replied, “No, that’s false.” before moving on to the next question.

While Hanks may not have been in consideration, Spielberg shared other thoughts for Hook in 2021 by admitting that Hook was originally intended to be a musical. The songs were cut during the first week of shooting, according to Spielberg, who explained that it didn’t sit good and that, in retrospect, he wasn’t sure he was ready to direct a musical at that point. With or without Hanks in it, if Spielberg’s initial plans had been carried out, Hook may have been a very different movie.
