Update: UFC finally proceeded with Nate Diaz’s request to grant him his final bout, pitting him against Khamzat Chimaev. It is now being reported that a fight broke out backstage between six fighters.

Original: Dana White has called off the UFC 279 pre-fight conference, citing “safety concerns.” The pay-per-view will be headlined by Khamzat Chimaev and Nate Diaz, in what will be the latter’s final fight.

ESPN’s Brett Okamoto reported that Diaz and Chimaev have entered into a verbal contract for a fight. The undefeated welterweight champion will face off against Diaz at the UFC 279 in a headlining bout on September 10th.

Diaz had been demanding the UFC to grant him his final fight. He threatened to quit the promotion on multiple occasions as well.
