Update: UFC finally proceeded with Nate Diaz’s request to grant him his final bout, pitting him against Khamzat Chimaev. It is now being reported that a fight broke out backstage between six fighters.

Original: Dana White has called off the UFC 279 pre-fight conference, citing “safety concerns.” The pay-per-view will be headlined by Khamzat Chimaev and Nate Diaz, in what will be the latter’s final fight.

ESPN’s Brett Okamoto reported that Diaz and Chimaev have entered into a verbal contract for a fight. The undefeated welterweight champion will face off against Diaz at the UFC 279 in a headlining bout on September 10th.

Diaz had been demanding the UFC to grant him his final fight. He threatened to quit the promotion on multiple occasions as well. Diaz’s contract with the UFC is set to expire sometime later this year. More details will likely come out about this still-developing story. Keep checking back with Thirsty for more.
