Jane Fonda is a pop-culture icon due to her decades-long Hollywood career. The legend recently revealed that she’s suffering from non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Thousands of fans expressed their good wishes after she took to Instagram to announce her condition.

The 84-year-old actress announced her diagnosis on Friday. However, she revealed some good news along with it. The star is already 6 months into her chemotherapy treatment. She also talked about learning from the cancer diagnosis.

Cancer is a teacher and I’m paying attention to the lessons it holds for me. One thing it’s shown me already is the importance of community. Of growing and deepening one’s community so that we are not alone. And the cancer, along with my age — almost 85 — definitely teaches the importance of adapting to new realities.

The Hollywood legend further revealed that she also has good odds, as 80% of all people diagnosed with it survive. The condition is very treatable, which is great news. She also called for attention to the state of health care in America.

The star said that most families going through a health crisis can’t get access to quality health care. She noted that she is receiving much better treatment, which is “not right.”

Almost every family in America has had to deal with cancer at one time or another and far too many don’t have access to the quality health care I am receiving and this is not right.

Fonda also addressed her climate activism. As she’s dealing with the chemo rounds with grace, she reassured her fans that she won’t be backing down from her acts of generating climate change awareness at all. We hope that Fonda becomes cancer-free soon.
