Idris Elba is well-known for his abilities as an actor. Elba has long been regarded as the internet’s second choice to play James Bond after Daniel Craig. Idris recently stated that he wants people to stop asking him if he is about to be the next James Bond.

Idris Elba, who has long been rumored to be the next James Bond, wants people to stop asking him about the role. No Time to Die, which was released in October 2021, served as Daniel Craig’s swan song, as his Bond was surprisingly killed off during the film’s final moments. The long-running spy franchise will now recast the lead part and reboot its continuity with a new actor, as it has done numerous times before.

There haven’t been many concrete developments in the recasting process since the release of the 25th Bond film. Longtime Bond producer Barbara Broccoli hinted in early 2022 that the momentous casting decision would take some time. While no official candidates have been announced, fan favorites include Henry Cavill, Tom Hardy, and Regé-Jean Page.

For the better part of a decade, Elba has been a popular James Bond fan cast, and as a result, he has been asked about playing the role innumerable times during interviews. Elba addressed candidly the ongoing Bond casting questions during a recent appearance on the Jemele Hill is Unbothered podcast, calling it “lazy journalism.” Elba claims he has “no more answers” to Bond’s questions, and thus attempts to ignore the matter entirely.

“I have no more answers for it. I just tell people ‘aw, don’t ask me that.’ Because a lot of times it’s really lazy journalism. And people try to use it as clickbait like ‘what’s he gonna say this time?’ I try to say the same things. Every now and then I just tease them, but every now and then I’ll give them some philosophy on why I don’t want to do it or why it’s a rumor. But most times now I tend not to talk about it.”

Elba’s remarks are simply the latest reason why the Elba-Bond rumor should be officially put to rest. Around the time of the release of No Time to Die, Elba stated unequivocally that he will not be the next Bond. According to a recent report, Bond producers are looking for a younger actor in their 30s to play 007, ruling out Elba, who is 49 years old, and other fan-favorite choices.

Rather than joining an established franchise like 007, Elba appears to prefer to focus on his current franchise characters, such as Luther, whom he has described as his own Bond. He also recently returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Heimdall in Thor: Love and Thunder for a surprise cameo, which could be a precursor to future appearances. Elba has a variety of franchise and non-franchise parts to keep him busy, including Beast, which is currently in theatres, and Three Thousand Years of Longing, which opens in theatres on August 26.

Idris Elba had to repeatedly explain himself, but his admirers were desperate for him to be the next Bond. Well, we have no control over that. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Thirsty.
