Writer Salman Rushdie is no stranger to vitriolic reactions from the public. Due to the provocative nature of his work, Rushdie is as controversial as he is celebrated. However, the negative reactions distilled into a shocking incident recently.

Rushdie was scheduled to deliver a speech at the Chautauqua Institution in New York on Friday. However, things quickly went awry as an attacker jumped onto the stage and proceeded to stab Rushdie.

While the attacker has been taken into custody, there is still no news on Rushdie’s condition. As per reports, the writer was stabbed multiple times. It is very likely that he has sustained serious injuries.

This is far from the first time that Rushdie has had to deal with such violence. In the past, the writer has received multiple death threats due to his work, with even Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Khomeini calling for Muslims to kill Rushdie in 1989.

The attacker’s motives have not been confirmed yet, but it would not be surprising if they happen to be related to Rushdie’s work. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Rushdie and those close to him. May he make a full and speedy recovery.
