Millie Bobby Brown made her Netflix series debut as Eleven when she was just 12 years old. She was thrust into the limelight while still a teenager due to the sudden success of Stranger Things, one of the most watched series on the streaming platform. However, Brown has recently revealed in an interview why she has been not active on social media in recent months.
In a recent Allure cover story, Brown claimed that the nasty and disturbingly sexualized texts she started to get from adult men caused her engagement with social media to worsen. Last year, she deleted both her TikTok and Twitter accounts.
“It’s really hard to be hated on when you don’t know who you are yet. So it’s like, ‘What do they hate about me?’ ‘Cause I don’t know who I am.’
You’re like, ‘Who am I meant to be? Who do they need me to be for them?’ Then I started to grow more, and my family and friends really helped. It helped to be able to understand that I don’t need to be anything they said that I need to be. I just have to develop within myself. That’s what I did.”
The actress also talked about an “unhealthy situation” with TikTok star Hunter Ecimovic, who admitted that he “groomed” the young actress and had sex with her when she was a juvenile. She ended her relationship with him in January 2021, and she later disclosed that she had to deal with the consequences of the situation while Stranger Things 4 was being filmed.
Millie said that she had already moved on and was in a new relationship with Jake Bongiovi at the time Hunter’s statements were made. His words were still upsetting, though. The actress has been “healing” over the last few months. Stay tuned to Thirsty for more updates.
