Ben Simmons has received a lot of criticism this year. Of course, this is due to the fact that he has yet to play a single game this season, prompting fans to label him “soft.” Simmons recently avoided responding to Nets group chat when he was asked to play and he eventually left the chat.

Simmons’ NBA career has recently come under intense scrutiny, and rightfully so. Simmons missed every game of the previous season due to a falling out with the Philadelphia 76ers. The reason for this fallout was because he performed poorly in the 2021 playoffs, despite Simmons’s claims that he was dealing with back pain and increased anxiousness.

In the end, Simmons received his wish when he was dealt to the Brooklyn Nets. Simmons continued to play for the Nets in exactly 0 games. In reality, Simmons promised the Nets he would be ready for Game 4 of the first-round playoff series against the Boston Celtics, but he ultimately broke his word at the eleventh hour.

According to a recent report from Ric Bucher, Simmons felt a lot of pressure to return, and that pressure eventually got to him. In the video below, Bucher described how Simmons’ teammates asked him to take part in Game 4. After a while, Simmons stopped responding and abruptly left the chat.

Bucher continued by claiming that Kevin Durant’s decision to ask for a trade from the team may have been influenced by this. Because of this, it is obvious that Simmons is afraid to play basketball. Simmons ought to be ready to start for the Nets on opening night, but there is no assurance of that given recent performance.
