The official trailer for the fourth and final season of ‘Atlanta’ was recently released on Tuesday, August 2nd and some are of the opinion that the show is “only for white people.” Series creator Donald Glover heard that sentiment, and he has responded.

Donald Glover and his brother, Stephen Glover, a show writer, appeared virtually at the TCA Press Tour on Tuesday to address internet criticism that the show “isn’t for Black people.” According to Deadline, Donald remarked that everyone has an agenda.

“To be real, if you’re online, everybody’s gonna have an agenda on some level. It would be silly to say that sometimes what people say doesn’t affect you because — especially being Black — I feel like a lot of the Black criticism bothers me only because it sounds like [it’s from] Black people who don’t really know what we’ve been through.”

“I don’t think they give a lot of credit to what we’ve gone through,” Donald continued. “So to be like, ‘Oh, these Black people hate Black people or these Black people hate Black women.’ I’m like, It’s such my it’s such a small view of who we are. I feel like it might even be because of what we’ve been through that you look at us the way you look at us.”

“To say it’s only for white people, it’s like we’re cutting ourselves down which is kind of wack to me,” Glover continued, before addressing previous claims of transphobia leveled against the show, which he also refuted.

Atlanta’s last season will air on September 15th, making the end of a historic run on television. Only time will tell how this season is received, but Donald Glover made it clear that he’s not producing a television show for just one group of people.
