Shonka Dukureh, the actress most known for her part in the film “Elvis,” was found dead. She was most known for playing Big Mama Thornton in the film and reprised the same role in Doja Cat’s “Vegas” music video. Doja Cat and Baz Luhrmann recently paid their tribute to late “Elvis” actress Shonka Dukureh, who was found dead in her home in Nashville, Tennessee.

Dukureh, who made her movie debut as blues singer Big Mama Thornton in Luhrmann’s Elvis Presley biopic, was found dead in her home. She was just 44 years old. The actress made a major appearance in the movie, singing Thornton’s biggest hit “Hound Dog.”

Doja’s single “Vegas,” which is derived from the Elvis soundtrack, samples the actress’s performance of the song. Doja Cat reacted to the passing of Dukureh on her Instagram Stories with a heartfelt message.

Rest in peace Shonka – an incredible talent taken from us too soon. Was a true honor getting to know her and I am so grateful to her for lending her incredible vocals to ‘Vegas.’ Her amazing performance in Elvis amongst her other artistry lives on. Sending my deepest condolences to her loved ones.

Additionally, Doja’s “Vegas” music video included Dukureh, who also joined the R&B singer onstage at Coachella in April to perform the song. On Instagram, Baz Luhrmann posted pictures of Dukureh and wrote a long eulogy. One of the pictures was of him kissing her on the forehead while they were filming. Check out the post and video below.
