Donald J. Trump left a legacy of chaos after his term as President of the United States. As the House Select Committee on the events of January 6, 2021, hurtles toward its final scheduled hearing this week, many believe The Donald could and should be facing serious legal repercussions for his role in the Capitol insurrection. Those close to Trump think he knows that all too well.

Rolling Stone has reported that Donald Trump has been making his motivations for once again seeking the nation’s highest office crystal clear to his associates. Trump believes that as President, it is much harder for prosecutors to make a criminal case against him. Donald plans to use the office to put a stop to any ongoing Justice Department investigations against him.

A source close to Donald Trump’s orbit told the outlet that he believes the Biden administration is working to pin criminal charges against him. That could even result in the disgraced former President winding up in jail. For Trump, the only way to definitively stop that is to win back the White House.

“[Trump has] spoken about how when you are the president of the United States, it is tough for politically motivated prosecutors to ‘get to you,” says one of the sources, who has discussed the issue with Trump this summer. “He says when [not if] he is president again, a new Republican administration will put a stop to the [Justice Department] investigation that he views as the Biden administration working to hit him with criminal charges — or even put him and his people in prison.”
