Miesha “Cupcake” Tate has become a celebrity outside of the Octagon, but her roots lie in UFC. Tate has become a popular podcaster and even a contestant on Celebrity Big Brother. She’s also got a distinguished MMA record and is scheduled for a key bout on today’s UFC Long Island broadcast on ABC.

At today’s event, Miesha Tate has a match that could prove critical to her UFC career. She is set to take on #3 ranked flyweight, Lauren Murphy. Tate does not currently crack the top 15 in the women’s rankings in the weight division.

On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed what may be at stake. With Tate’s career reaching its final stage, a loss could mark the end of her MMA career. A win may give Miesha Tate an unexpected second chance at glory.

“You know, Brian Ortega vs Yair Rodriguez… It’s a good fight, you know, as far as the main event. You know, it’s interesting to see how it’ll do. And, obviously Miesha Tate back and she’s either going to win and get a title shot or she’s going to lose and probably, you know, I think that might be the end of her career if she loses because there’s kind of nowhere else for her to go.”
