“Thor: Love and Thunder,” the fourth installment in the Thor franchise, is still a huge hit around the world. Taika Waititi, the director of Thor: Love and Thunder, found an unexpected source of inspiration for the sounds of Thor’s screaming goats. He came upon it through an old Taylor Swift meme.

Waititi told Insider about it on Monday. He explained that the pair of goats given to Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Korg (Waititi) by a troop of aliens they assisted in battle were not intended to scream endlessly.

“The goats were always going to be in there because they are in the comics, but we didn’t know how they would sound.”

Waititi went on to say that a film post-production employee rediscovered a viral 2013 meme featuring a goat’s screams during the chorus of Swift’s 2012 hit “I Knew You Were Trouble.” One video depicting the joke, which was initially posted to YouTube in 2013, has received over 5.7 million views.

“Then someone in post-production found this meme of a Taylor Swift song that has screaming goats in it. I didn’t even know that existed. So I hear the screaming goats and I just felt it was awesome. A lot of people think it’s me screaming. It’s not.”

Waititi stated that the noises were added by a vendor hired to create the computer-generated goats for the film as part of an update to the goats’ creation. He stated that he and the Thor: Love and Thunder production crew decided it was amusing enough to put in the final cut of the film.

“So it was just a shot of how the CG creatures were coming along, it wasn’t meant for the film or anything, it was just an update. And the screams were freakin’ awesome.”

The scene made everyone chuckle, and it’s even more amusing now given that it was inspired by a Taylor Swift meme. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Thirsty.
