The fourth instalment of the Bad Boys franchise was rumored to be halted after Will Smith’s Oscars fiasco. Sony Chairman Tom Rothman provided an update on “Bad Boys 4,” claiming that the picture is still in development and will star Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, contradicting previous rumors. Martin Lawrence, who stars in Bad Boys 4, has provided a confident update despite his co-ongoing star’s scandal.

Bad Boys 4 recently got a positive update from star Martin Lawrence, who believes the film will get done in spite of Will Smith’s recent Oscars issue. Martin Lawrence was asked for an update on Bad Boys 4 in a recent interview with Ebony. Lawrence expressed his continued belief in the movie’s prospects.

We got one more at least.

Lawrence and Smith have lead all three Bad Boys films, which were principally helmed by Michael Bay and scripted by screenwriter George Gallo. The recently released movie Bad Boys for Life from 2020 was directed by the future Moon Knight and Batgirl team Adil & Bilall. Martin talked about the franchise saying how having an action movie with two Black leads was a big deal in Hollywood.

It was big. For us to come together and prove that we can deliver, and we can pull people into the box office—that two Black stars, two sitcom stars, could make money at the box office [was huge]. I didn’t go to college, so I felt TV was my college years. I felt with movies, I had graduated; it was just different.

Contrary to the other two films, Bad Boys for Life received favorable reviews from critics and outperformed its $90 million production budget by generating over $426 million. It became the third-highest-grossing January release of all time and the most successful instalment of the trilogy. Sony began working on Bad Boys 4 after this triumph, and one star has an encouraging update for the sequel after two years of mostly silence.

In spite of these rumors, Sony Chairman Tom Rothman revealed in May that the studio was still working on Bad Boys 4 and that “there weren’t any brakes to pump.” He added that this was because the project hadn’t yet gained enough momentum. Lawrence may not have provided many details about how much work had been done on the movie, but his optimism for Bad Boys 4 will undoubtedly be welcomed by the franchise’s fans.
