Breaking Bad, the American neo-Western crime drama television series created and produced by Vince Gilligan, is arguably the best TV series in history. Hardly any other show compares to the greatness of its acting, plot, storytelling, pacing, foreshadowing, character development, cinematography and dialogues. The city of Albuquerque is now installing statues honoring Walter White and Jesse Pinkman from the television series, maybe the first municipal statues ever honoring meth cooks.

According to a press release, Vince Gilligan, the creator of the series, and Sony Pictures Television are gifting the statues to the city. Vince Gilligan had initially commissioned the statues from the artist Trevor Grove in 2019. The iconic television characters are getting larger-than-life bronze statues.

Over the course of fifteen years, two TV shows and one movie, Albuquerque has been wonderful to us.  I wanted to return the favor and give something back. These larger-than-life bronzes of Walter White and Jesse Pinkman exist thanks to the generosity of Sony Pictures Television and the artistry of sculptor Trevor Grove, and I love them. It makes me happy to picture them gracing The Duke City for decades to come, attracting busloads of tourists.

Breaking Bad continues to promote tourism in Albuquerque more than ten years after the premiere of the first season, in large part due to the show’s stunning photography that captures the city’s desolate desert landscapes. After being unveiled on July 29, the statues will be on exhibit inside the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Mayor Keller, Gilligan, executive producer and co-creator of Better Call Saul Peter Gould, Emmy Award winners Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, and other distinguished guests are scheduled to attend the unveiling ceremony. Yesterday marked the airing of Better Call Saul’s final six episodes, and it has been revealed that iconic meth chefs Walter White and Jesse Pinkman will return for the last few episodes.
