‘Dark Side of the Ring’ was one of the most compelling docuseries of the last several years. Vice’s take on the seedier aspects of professional wrestling captivated audiences, many of whom aren’t even wrestling fans. There have been a lot of rumors about the future of the show, which ran for three seasons before taking a pause.

It was initially believed that the show would not be returning for a fourth season. Vice quickly squashed those rumors. The network said they were committed to the show and that its creators were hard at work on new content.

On today’s Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez dropped a juicy nugget of info about a potential fourth season. Alvarez said the producers have put out a casting call for a celebrity who became infamous for his role in pro wrestling.

“The people involved said there was going to be another season but there appeared to be absolutely zero indications whatsoever they were actually doing that season. Well, I don’t know if they’re actually filming the season right now, but, I can tell you, that they have put out casting notices for different individuals for the next season of ‘Dark Side of the Ring.’

One of them, by the way, there’s a casting notice out. They’re looking for an actor to play Andy Kaufman. And, so, I saw this notice, and it says, ‘Must look like Andy Kaufman.’ I laughed. So, wait, you’re telling me you can’t look like Bill Cosby if you’re trying out for the Andy Kaufman role? Like, you have to look like Andy Kaufman? That’s what they want?

So, if you look like Andy Kaufman, they’re looking for someone to play Andy Kaufman, but if you don’t look like him, then don’t audition. If you look like Andre The Giant, you’re not going to get that role as Andy Kaufman.”

Andy Kaufman infamously feuded with Jerry Lawler in Memphis during wrestling’s territory days. Lawler and Kaufman even had it out on David Letterman’s late-night talk show. It’s one of the most interesting stories in the history of the sport, and it looks like ‘Dark Side of the Ring’ plans to cover it in their long-awaited fourth season.
