Oprah Winfrey is known the world over for her many successful projects and multimedia empire. Although that wasn’t always the case, Oprah Winfrey was allegedly by her father’s side when he recently passed away. The legendary television talk show host’s father, Vernon Winfrey, passed away from cancer at the age of 88. However, in his own words, he explained that Oprah barely spoke to him.

Vernon opened out about the awful closing years of his life in one of his last interviews. He told Radar Online in one of his final interviews that he was impoverished, and his television giant daughter barely spoke to him. Vernon discussed the final years of his life, noting their birthdays were also two days apart.

“We talk on the phone maybe a couple of times a year — on her birthday Jan. 29 and my birthday a couple of days later Jan. 31. We’ll talk for about 20 minutes,”

“I told her I’d like to come and see [her mansion] before I’m too old to travel.”

“But it’s not just a matter of calling her up and telling her I’m coming. She could be anywhere at any given time.”

“I have six different guys I used to play checkers with, all a year or two older than me, but they’re deceased.”

“So now, I look forward to Thursday night football, and Sunday night football. The older I’ve gotten, the more I’ve fallen in love with my bed. I just enjoy laying there.”

Oprah spent her early years in Milwaukee with her mother, Vernita Lee, who passed away in 2018, and in Kosciusko, Mississippi, the hometown of her late father. Between the ages of 7 and 9 and during her teenage years, she also resided in Nashville with her father.

Outspoken Vernon declared that his last ambition was to visit one of Oprah’s many houses, particularly her waterfront pad in Hawaii, which is situated on 1,800 lovely acres. After his close friends passed away, Vernon was left alone to watch football at his run-down home in East Nashville, Tennessee in his latter years, according to his own words in an interview. It seems that Vernon tragically suffered from excruciating loneliness during those final days. We can only hope that things improved for him after this interview. RIP.
