The beloved ‘Paddington’ series recently found itself without a director. The beloved storybook bear surprised audiences with its heartfelt film adaptations. The third movie has been in the works for a while, and now it finally has its director and a title.

The new Paddington movie will come with extremely high expectations. The first film boasts a 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The sequel was even more well-received, checking in at 99% on the Tomatometer.

The pressure will fall on commercial filmmaker Dougal Wilson, according to The Hollywood Reporter. ‘Paddington in Peru’ will be his first major big-screen project. In the past, he has worked on famous music videos for LCD Soundsystem, Basement Jaxx, and Coldplay.

Dougal Wilson has also worked on famous commercials for some well-known companies. Wilson has worked with Stella Artois, Olympus, Coca-Cola, and Apple. It remains to be seen how he will do in his big-screen debut.

The revival of the Paddington franchise captured imaginations young and old when Paul King wrote and directed a live-action revival in 2014. King returned to direct Paddington 2 in 2017. Fans will have to wait and see what Dougal Wilson has in mind for the lovable bear.

StudioCanal is taking a major gamble by handing over a treasured franchise to an inexperienced film director. While Dougal Wilson has bona fides in the visual arts, it will be a huge leap to create a family movie. Time will tell if he is successful.
