50 Cent is never one to keep his opinion to himself. When it comes to LGBTQ issues, occasionally Fif can get a little out of line. The rapper recently shared his thoughts on what should be a major point of Pride during a month when we celebrate love and freedom.

The Carolina Panthers recently hired the league’s first transgender cheerleader. Justine Lindsay joined the Topcats squad after beating out the cream of the crop during a rigorous tryout. The team’s director said gender had nothing to do with their selection.

The reaction wasn’t the normal vitriol you see coming from 50 Cent. Instead, he suggested that the NFL must want to spread its wings. He also wondered why there hasn’t been a transgender player in the league in his since-deleted Instagram post.

“I guess the NFL is looking to spread its wings. why not a transgender player though? I hope this is not just for press.”

While 50 Cent did not openly mock Justine Lindsay, his comment about whether this is being done for the press is troubling. The director of the cheer team has already said that Justine Lindsay made the team on her merits. Nobody would willingly walk into a position where they knew they were going to face widespread criticism and mockery just for some PR karma.

50 Cent’s thoughts on the NFL’s first trans cheerleader weren’t as homophobic as some he has made in the past. That still doesn’t excuse the knee-jerk reaction that it might only be for publicity. Justine Lindsay isn’t going to worry about it, because she’s got a brand new job to do.
