John Cena is a very significant person, and his famous status is only increasing day by day. However, Kurt Angle, a WWE Hall of Famer, recently explained why he lost a role in The Marine to John Cena so many years ago, a role that helped jumpstart Cena’s film career.

For the past two decades, John Cena has been one of WWE’s biggest stars. Cena made his debut on SmackDown as the rookie who accepted Angle’s open challenge, and the rest was history.

In Hollywood, the 16-time World Champion has a very busy schedule. Cena was most recently seen at SummerSlam, where he was defeated by Roman Reigns. On a recent episode of The Kurt Angle Show, the Olympic Gold Medalist explained why he lost a role to Cena:

“I wasn’t mad at John, I was mad at Vince. He just took the movie away from me because this new kid came in and made a huge impact. I made a huge impact too! So I wasn’t sure why that happened. It actually was the beginning of the end for me in the WWE. After that was when things started to go downhill, and about a year or two later, that’s when I left the company.”

Cena’s famed Hollywood career began with The Marine. He then went from WWE Superstar to Hollywood A-lister after nearly 15 years in the industry. Angle in that lost role would have been exciting to see.

Several superstars, including The Rock, John Cena, and Batista, have appeared in major motion pictures such as Marvel and DC. At the same time, WWE Studios films have featured The Miz, Dean Ambrose, and Dolph Ziggler.

When a film is cast correctly, it can do wonders for the star’s career. One such instance occurred when the Leader of Cenation signed on for The Marine. He was not, however, the first choice for the part. Angle revealed in the same podcast how the 16-time World Champion got the role.

“The Marine was supposed to be my movie. What happened was, ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin was told that he was going to do The Marine… Steve left the company, so Vince gave the movie to me. I had it, and they weren’t sure when they were going to film it. A year went by, and then Vince came to me and said, ‘Hey listen, I want to give that Marine movie to John Cena.’”

It worked out well for Cena because it served as a launching pad for his highly acclaimed Hollywood career. It’ll be exciting to see if The Leader of Cenation makes another appearance at SummerSlam. Stay tuned to Thirsty for more updates.
