LeBron James and Kyrie Irving came together to bring the city of Cleveland its first major sports championship in 52 years back in 2016. James was driven to win a title for his hometown after decades of frustration. Many jokingly referred to LeBron as the “General Manager” of those incredible Cavs squads.
In 2015, LeBron James and Kyrie Irving had their best season together. The Cavs were dominant and finally brought a trophy to Cleveland. Kyrie recently talked about his experiences with the franchise and LeBron.
On the latest episode of “I Am Athlete,” Kyrie confirmed the rumor that LeBron James was secretly running the team. Irving said he put the entire roster together himself. This was the first confirmation of LeBron’s influence over the Cavs despite it being a long-standing rumor.
“When me and him clicked in 2015, I had one of the best years of my career. I was All-NBA third team, I shot a high percentage from the field. We were going back and forth as a one-two punch and we had K-Love, Tristan, JR, Shump… we had players! Bron was like behind the scenes, what’s his nickname they always call him? The GM?”
He put the whole squad together.”
NBA fans will not be surprised by the confirmation of this rumor. Still, it is the first time somebody has come out and said it. LeBron James built a championship team in Cleveland from scratch.
Things haven’t been going so well in Los Angeles for LeBron James. The Lakers embarrassingly failed to qualify for this year’s NBA Playoffs. Fans are hoping that LeBron puts the GM hat back on and helps his team build another championship roster.
