Elon Musk has promised a lot since Twitter accepted his offer to purchase the company. The Tesla boss has made it very clear that he believes the platform has a left-leaning political slant. The biggest sign of that was when the company banned then-President Donald Trump.

There has been much speculation about whether Elon Musk would be willing to lift the ban on Trump. Musk has been clear that he thinks the entire editorial philosophy of the site merits revisiting. Now, Elon has finally spoken openly about whether he would unban Donald Trump.

Deadline reports that at the Financial Times’ Future of the Car Conference, Elon directly addressed the controversy. Musk said that while his takeover of Twitter is not a done deal yet, he would be more than willing to lift The Donald’s ban.

“I think it was a morally bad decision, to be clear, and foolish in the extreme. It was not correct to ban Donald Trump. I think that was a mistake. It alienated a large part of the country.”

Elon Musk believes banning Trump only amplified his voice on the right. Trump was removed from the platform in the wake of the January 6 Capitol riot that saw his supporters attempt to overthrow a free election. Trump had amplified several lies on Twitter regarding the election.

Donald Trump recently said he was planning to stick with his own social media outlet. Truth Social has had a rough time finding traction among a sea of other options. Time will tell if he returns to Twitter if and when his ban is lifted.
