NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal has cemented himself as one of the greatest players in basketball history. He’s also a pro wrestling enthusiast who has competed in both WWE and AEW. Shaquille O’Neal claims his daughters can take their time and live at home whereas his sons had to depart when they’re 18.

Shaquille O’Neal explained why he prefers to keep his girls at home for far longer than his sons. On a recent episode of The Pivot Podcast, the 50-year-old former NBA great said his three daughters can stay put but his three sons need to find their own home when they’re 18.

O’Neal and his ex-wife Shaunie O’Neal have four children together: Shareef, Amirah, Shaqir, and Me’arah. Shaunie has a son, Myles, from a prior relationship. And O’Neal has a daughter, Taahirah, with his former girlfriend Arnetta Yardbourgh.

I like my girls a little bit better. Because as a man you have to protect, provide and love your woman. I trust them more because they’re more sensitive, they’re more caring and they’re thinkers. You know how boys are. My boys, you bring something in front of them and they’re gone. I tell my boys when y’all get 18 you all got to go. Girls can stay as long as they want. [The girls] can stay as long as y’all want, take your time. Go to college, get your master’s, get your doctorate, I’ll pay for it, take your time.

In 2007, O’Neal filed for divorce from Shaunie, but the pair later reconciled. Shaunie, now 47, filed for divorce two years later and requested sole custody of their children. On the basketball court, O’Neal was known for his hardness, but as a father, he discovered a new side of himself.
