Mike Tyson was caught on camera punching the daylights out of a seemingly unsuspecting man aboard an airplane earlier this week. The ‘victim,’ Melvin Townsend, was bloodied after the former heavyweight champ delivered repeated blows to his head. Townsend, a career petty criminal, was said to have been acting inappropriately towards Iron Mike.

Tyson got off the plane, boarded another flight, and partied with Ric Flair in Florida after the incident. It was then revealed that Townsend has a long rap sheet and a history of being a troublemaker. That history likely sparked the thought for Melvin Townsend to lawyer up.

Townsend hired attorney Matt Morgan, who says the beating was an excessive use of force by Mike Tyson. It was alleged that Townsend wouldn’t leave Tyson alone and eventually threw a water bottle at him. If that’s the case, Morgan doesn’t believe Tyson’s reaction was appropriate, according to TMZ Sports.

“Our client is a big Mike Tyson fan. When Mike Tyson boarded the plane, he became overly excited. At first, their interaction was cordial.

At a certain point, Mr. Tyson clearly became agitated by an overly excited fan and began to strike him in an excessive manner. This situation could have been avoided simply by contacting the flight attendant. Our client denies throwing a water bottle prior to being struck by Mr. Tyson.”

Townsend’s lawyer thinks Mike should have exercised more restraint. Mike Tyson probably could say the same thing about Melvin. We will have to wait and see what comes next, but it sounds like Townsend is angling for a lawsuit.
