Whoopi Goldberg has been causing a ton of controversy on The View this year. Goldberg was suspended from the show in February after making insensitive comments about the holocaust. Whoopi returned on Valentine’s Day, but will now be taking a leave of absense for a different reason.

Goldberg has been cast in the upcoming Amazon Prime adaptation of “Anansi Boys.” Co-host Joy Behar made the announcement during today’s broadcast. There is no timetable for Whoopi’s return to The View.

“If you’re wondering where Whoopi is, the girl’s got a movie she’s making and she will be back when she finishes whatever she’s doing. So she’s gone for a while.”

Whoopi Goldberg is currently in Scotland filming the series. Goldberg will play one of the major villains in the adaptation. Whoopi apparently did not leave a shooting schedule with her day job, as Behar doesn’t seem to know how long she will be gone.

Conspiracy-minded fans may take the news as Whoopi Goldberg getting back at the show for her suspension. It is more likely because Whoopi is a huge fan of the NJeil Gaiman novel upon which the new show is based. If she doesn’t return to The View for months, there may be cause for concern.

For now, The View will go on without Whoopi Goldberg. It does not appear to have anything to do with her previous suspension. A little time away from the show will probably do her some good anyway.
