The Weeknd has been confirmed as Kanye West’s replacement as the Coachella music festival’s headliner. Fans were ecstatic about the new lineup and couldn’t wait to see him play live. However, according to a source, The Weeknd ‘is not stressing’ about joining the Coachella concert roster at the last minute to replace Kanye West.
The Weeknd is preparing for his big Coachella performance, where he and Swedish House Mafia will take over Kanye West’s headlining slot. A source familiar with the “Blinding Lights” pop star told HollywoodLife exclusively:
“Even though everything is coming together at the last minute, Abel is not stressing about Coachella. The fact that this is all being coordinated pretty much at the last minute isn’t much of a concern and he’s confident this will be pulled off without a hitch.”
The Weeknd will perform on both the 17th and 24th of April. Kanye West pulled out of the festival just two weeks before he was scheduled to perform, thus The Weeknd’s participation was spur-of-the-moment. The four-time Grammy Award winner, though, has “been in situations like this before where he’s had to make last-minute adjustments, so this is nothing new.” according to a source. “He’s the type of artist who is just focused on his work and doesn’t let outside distractions interfere at all.”
The source continued of The Weeknd, “He has a very calm nature and doesn’t get stressed or frantic. He has an amazing team behind him, so he just wants to get out there and have fun, and he’s so excited to be working with Swedish House this.” A second insider told HL that since The Weeknd “killed” his Super Bowl 2021 Halftime Show performance, he’s not worried about Coachella. “He is going to show everyone why he is such an amazing performer and worth the price they are paying him. He’s excited to do what he loves for new and old fans. He is out to prove that even if they had other people in mind, he is the best option,” the insider shared.
Coachella 2022 in Indio, California will also feature Billie Eilish and Harry Styles. The actual reasons behind Ye’s withdrawal from the festival are still unknown. Kanye’s set apparently included Travis Scott, who was dropped off the schedule following the Astroworld Tragedy in November, according to a prior TMZ report. Kanye also declined to perform at the Grammy Awards in 2022 after his performance was canceled due to his online activity.
