The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences may have banned Will Smith from attending Oscar and related events for the next 10 years, but the internet isn’t happy over its handling of convicted rapists who went on to receive the highest of honors at the Oscars.

Minutes after the Academy announced it had banned Will Smith from attending its events, in virtual and real, for 10 years, social media users dragged the body for letting Roman Polanski, Harvey Weinstein and other convicted sex offenders roam free on its events.

The ban comes days after the “Hancock” actor slapped comedian Chris Rock for making a joke about Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith’s, hair loss. Chris Rock apparently did not know about Jada’s medical condition. Will Smith went on win the Oscar for Best Actor later that night.

Will Smith issued a public apology hours after slapping Rock on-air. He condemned violence in the opening lines of the statement and lamented that his behavior was unacceptable and inexcusable. He admitted he was out of line and regretted what he did.
