Martha Stewart is a huge animal lover. Her pets include champion show Chow Chow dogs, French Bulldogs, Himalayan cats, a Fell Pony named Ben Chunch, and Friesian horses. Recently, four of her dogs accidentally killed her defenseless cat.

Martha Stewart was in mourning following the tragic death of her “defenseless” cat, which they mistook for an intruder. “burying the beautiful and unusual Princess Peony,” the lifestyle guru wrote in a post to Instagram Sunday. “the four dogs mistook her for an interloper and killed her defenseless little self.” She added, “i will miss her very badly. RIP beauty.”

Stewart included a photograph of Princess Peony’s burial, in which three men can be seen digging a hole in her yard. She later posted a close-up of the late ball of fur lounging on a fluffy rug with the caption, “this was the Princess Peony.” Stewart, interestingly, posted about her cats being afraid of her dogs just last August.

“My cats feel liberated because the four dogs are away on vacation. Leaving the cats alone in the house to roam, relax, recover !!!” she captioned photos of her felines, one of which appeared to be Princess Peony, at the time. Several of Stewart’s famous friends and fans expressed their condolences in the comments section on Sunday.

“So sorry” Ellen Pompeo commented on the post. Kris Jenner chimed in with three teary-eyed emoticons. “What a beautiful girl she was. I’m so very sorry. Rest peacefully, sweet girl.” one more commented. “Omg Martha I’m so sorry! RIP Princess Peony.. you were so loved,” a fan wrote. “so sorry Martha. Sending comfort and hugs your way,” another added.

It’s unclear how many pets Stewart owns, but Princess Peony will be missed. May her soul rest in peace. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Thirsty.
