Polo G is no stranger to controversy. The Chicago native was previously arrested on concealed weapon charges. The charges were later dropped in the police battery case. Polo G recently shed light on his past episodes of overdosing.

Polo G may appear to have it all from the outside looking in, but the 23-year-old has battled his fair share of tough time. According to Uproxx, he learned in late March that his “Heartless” music video had topped 100 million views, prompting him to provide fans some background on the smash song. Polo gave the backstory on his Instagram Story.

Back story [for that] video, I was fresh out the hospital bed from almost overdosing onnem pills. I pop right back out and shoot dat video, now dat b-tch platinum [with] 100ms by it.

The song “Heartless” was included on the rapper’s second studio album, The GOAT, which helped propel him to the degree of prominence he enjoys today. “33,” which features the late Juice WRLD, “21,” and “Martin & Gina” are among the album’s outstanding singles.

That wasn’t the only episode that Polo G found himself down for the count as a result of his substance abuse issues. He told Complex about another near-death episode in December, when he almost overdosed on 17 tablets. “When I woke up, I was in the hospital. And my pops was just explaining to me like, ‘Yeah, man, they said you would had been here any second, even a minute later, you wouldn’t have made it. You probably could’ve passed.'” Check out the posts below.
