Will Smith took home the Oscar for best slap at this year’s presentation. Of course, the slap did not appear in a film; instead, Smith hit Chris Rock on the stage when the latter made a joke about Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. Following Will Smith’s viral slapping scene, the fourth instalment of the Bad Boys franchise has apparently been halted.

While Smith has now apologized and resigned from the Academy, it appears that the consequences of his actions are still being felt. In reaction, Bad Boys 4 has been put on hold at Sony, according to The Hollywood Reporter. At the time of writing, neither Smith nor Sony had verified anything.

Is there any immediate effect on his projects? Well, here’s one tidbit we’ve heard this week: Bad Boys 4 had been in active development, and Smith received 40 pages of the script before the Oscars incident. According to our sources. Now there will be a … pause … in work as things play out, we’ve been told.

Rock might have not wanted to file charges against Smith, but Academy Awards committee has been very upset about the incident. The Greater Los Angeles Agency on Deafness was also not happy and they called out Will Smith for snatching the Oscar focus away from “CODA.”
