The music industry is mourning an unanticipated loss today as the Foo Fighters announced the passing of their drummer. Taylor Hawkins, the award-winning rock band’s drummer, died while the band was on tour. The Foo Fighters have been touring South America, playing to sold-out crowds, and were rumored to be performing for fans in Bogota. No cause of death has been released at this time.

The tragic and untimely death of their beloved Taylor Hawkins has left the Foo Fighters family devastated. In a statement posted to their official social media platforms, the band announced the death of Hawkins, who was 50 years old.

The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins. His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live with us forever. Our hearts go out to his wife, children, and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time.

Hawkins was a member of the Foo Fighters since 1997, having previously worked with Alanis Morissette and other noteworthy acts. Hawkins and his Foo Fighters bandmates were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Paul McCartney earlier this year.

The Foo Fighters also cancelled their December 12 performance at the Formula 1 championship race in Abu Dhabi due to unforeseen medical reasons. The band was also rumored to be performing at the Grammy Awards on April 3rd. Everyone here at Thirsty sends our condolences out to Hawkins’ friends, family, colleagues, and loved ones during this sad time.
