The Simpsons has featured many cameos over the years and it is a dream for many celebrities. The Weeknd got to make a cameo in The Simpsons and check a huge item off his bucket list. However, he isn’t satisfied with just a cameo and wants to appear more on the show.
The Weeknd already had an amazing year with the release of the album Dawn FM. Adding to it, he made his debut on The Simpsons, Sunday night. The episode was centered around Bart becoming friends with a child influencer, played by The Weeknd. Replying to a tweet by Matt Selman he has shown his urge to be a regular on the show.
“Thank you Matt !! Let’s make Orion Hughes and Bart’s friendship a re-occurring thing”
The Starboy singer voiced a character named Oriel Hughes, who owns the fictional skate brand “Slipreme.” The Weeknd also voices Orion Hughes’ father, Darius, while Michael Rapaport reprises his role as the Homer-obsessed food truck owner Mike Wegman. The writer of the episode, Ryan Koh, had nothing but praise for the artist.
The episode finds Bart Simpson suffering humiliation after Homer buys him a pair of fake Slipreme sneakers. Bart’s playground status skyrockets after he becomes friends with Hughes and the pair create a new shoe together. Abel also shared several clips and photos from his appearance on social media as the episode aired.
“The Simpsons” is not the first animated series for which The Weeknd has provided voice acting. Abel appeared in an episode of American Dad! back in 2020. Later on, he mentioned that The Simpsons is one of the few shows that would compare to working on American Dad!.
With the opportunity provided to The Weekend, he made sure to use all of it. Now he wants to make his appearance a recurring thing on the show.
