Weird Al is known for his amusing songs parodying pop culture and often specific songs by contemporary musical acts. Daniel Radcliffe will play the iconic comedian and musician “Weird Al” Yankovic in WEIRD: The Al Yankovic Story. Radcliffe recently revealed that he got the role of Weird Al because of Rihanna.

Daniel Radcliffe recently discovered that “Weird Al” Yankovic was impressed by a novelty song. He performed it over a decade ago, but it’s unclear how Rihanna felt about it. On Friday, the Harry Potter star appeared on The Tonight Show, where host Jimmy Fallon inquired about Weird, the Roku Channel biopic in which the Lost City actor will play a parody-song expert.

Inquiring as to how the casting came about, Fallon questioned if Radcliffe had previously met Yankovic, to which the guest replied that he had not.

“When I talked to Al for the first time, I was like, ‘I’m immensely flattered by the idea that you would pick me to play you, but like, why me? I’m mystified but excited.'”

He went on to say that in November 2010, he appeared on the Graham Norton Show and recited every word of humorist Tom Lehrer’s novelty song “The Elements” by heart. For those who are unfamiliar, the song lists all the elements of the periodic table in a rhymed order and is sung to the tune of the opera The Pirates of Penzance’s “Major-Song.” General’s At the time, Radcliffe’s fellow Graham Norton guests, Colin Farrell and Rihanna, appeared to be perplexed by the feat.

“I sang ‘The Elements’ next to Colin Farrell and a very amused Rihanna,” said Radcliffe. The actor added that he sensed Rihanna “was like, who is this kid, and why is he singing all of ‘The Elements?’”

“I guess Al saw that and was like, ‘This guy maybe gets it.’ And so he picked me. So I’m very, very lucky, and now I’ve gotten to have accordion lessons with Al.”

Daniel recently stated that he has no desire to reprise his role in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Maybe he wants to try his hand at something other than Harry Potter. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Thirsty.
