The Kentucky Wildcats are famous among college hoops fans for the number of players they put in the NBA. In the bluegrass state, basketball is king. There is no better example than the dominance of the University of Kentucky under head coach John Calipari.

Kentucky figured their first-round matchup against #15 seed Saint Peters would be a good tune-up for the later rounds. Saint Peters, a tiny Catholic school from New Jersey, showed up to play. Two periods wasn’t enough to decide a winner.

A tense feeling overcame the Kentucky players. They were five minutes away from losing to an 18.5 point underdog. In the end, Saint Peters pulled out the miracle and sent Calipari and his team of five-star recruits packing. Saint Peter’s coach Shaheen Holloway said his team didn’t make the trip just to lose, according to ESPN.

“Proud of my guys for battling, like we do all year. This is something that these guys understand, no disrespect to anybody, but we wasn’t coming down here just to lose. We came down here to fight and we did.”

Coach Calipari said it was a sad day for his program. Kentucky had an eight-point lead with just three minutes to go. Saint Peters might have received a little divine intervention as they now prepare for an unexpected trip to the second round.
