The homeless communities of the Washington, DC, and New York City areas have been terrorized after five men were shot in a short period. Two of the men did not survive their wounds. Police have been working around the clock to track down the killer.

A joint investigation between the NYPD and DC Police have finally led to an arrest. A suspect was taken into custody this morning in Washington. The DC Police Department tweeted early this morning that a suspect has been taken into custody.

“ARRESTED: Early this AM, law enforcement arrested the suspect in Washington, DC. He is currently being interviewed at our Homicide Branch. Additional information will be forthcoming. Thanks to the community for all your tips.

NBC News identified the suspect as 30-year-old Gerald Brevard. Brevard is being questioned regarding five shootings. The suspect has a violent criminal history, including assaulting a woman in Virginia.

A terrifying video captured the suspect executing a homeless man in his sleeping bag. Police said that several other attempted murders and murders occurred between DC and New York at that time. It appears as though authorities now have their man.

All agencies hunting for Gerald Brevard were offering a total of $70,000 as a reward. It is not known exactly what led investigators to the suspect. More information will be forthcoming as the investigation continues.
