The war in Ukraine has got everyone on their toes. In this time of uncertainty and panic, the dissemination of accurate information becomes very important. TikTok has come to be one such platform of information.

Taking note of this, the administration wants to get its message to the top content creators on the platform. On Thursday afternoon, top 30 TikTok stars attended a zoom meeting to receive critical information pertaining the ongoing war.

National Security Council Staffers and White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki briefed the content creators about the country’s strategic goals in the geopolitical region. They discussed the distribution of aid to Ukrainians, co-operation with NATO, and the United States’ response in the event of Russia using nuclear weapons.

The White House has been closely observing the rise of TikTok as a news source since the crisis in Ukraine has escalated. Millions have turned to TikTok to know what is happening in the war-stricken country. This has led White House’s decision to approach its top influencers.

In the wake of Russia’s invasion on Ukraine TikTok banned creation of videos in Russian territory. However, the video-focused social networking company did mention that they might resume their services in Russia in future given how situation unfolds.

Recently, the administration began working with Gen Z For Change, a nonprofit advocacy group, to identify the top influencers on the platform and brief them about the conflict and United States’ strategic goals.
