Vladimir Putin is finding allies on American soil, from former President Donald Trump to Fox News host Tucker Carlson, as he wages war against Ukraine. Jon Stewart has mostly kept a low profile in the entertainment industry since leaving The Daily Show, but he has used his celebrity and voice to advocate for 9/11 first responders and war veterans’ health benefits. Jon Stewart recently praised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s courage and tenacity, as well as the way he’s leading his country in the face of the Russian invasion.

In an appearance on “Morning Joe” on Wednesday, Jon Stewart praised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s efforts during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Toward the end of the segment, host Joe Scarborough asked Stewart about Zelenskyy, who worked as an actor and comedian before being elected president of Ukraine in 2019.

“It’s just an extraordinary transformation,” Scarborough said of the comedian-turned-world-leader. “Extraordinary,” Stewart responded. “Look, I’m a comedian. I know comedians. I don’t know that we would be able to rise to the challenge of being in a movie about war.”

“You see this gentleman’s courage and tenacity and the way that he’s leading his country. It’s incredibly moving.”

“My fear for Ukraine is that we’re going to get sucked into this idea of a heroic narrative while these folks get surrounded in a long-term siege that’s just going to cause so much more death and destruction.”

Since Russia invaded his country a week ago, Zelenskyy has become something of an international hero. As threats of additional attacks loom, the former comedian has remained at the helm. Let us pray for all of the innocent civilians caught up in the war. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Thirsty.
