Mickey Mantle’s name is synonymous with the New York Yankees. Mantle played his entire seventeen-year career with the club. Mickey is a beloved fixture of Yankee lore.

That kind of reverence for a baseball player can lead to some crazy memorabilia prices. One could only imagine what an extremely rare piece would fetch at auction. Thanks to a recent sale, we now know that the number is enormous.

Mickey Mantle’s final Yankees jersey has sold for an astonishing $2.2 million. Heritage Auctions shared the news with TMZ. It marks the highest price ever paid for a Mickey Mantle jersey.

Experts initially thought the famous top would sell for under $2 million. They were shocked when it went for hundreds of thousands more than even the most generous pre-auction estimates. In addition to the historical context of it being Mick’s final uniform, the jersey is also autographed by the baseball great.

The previous record for a Mickey Mantle jersey sale occurred in 2018. A less sought-after piece went for $1.3 million. This one left it in the dust.

The auction also saw another unique piece go for huge money. A basketball autographed by Barack Obama, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Magic Johnson, and Carmelo Anthony went for $99,000. The pre-auction estimate for that item was $12,000. Sports collectors are willing to pay almost anything to find a connection to their favorite stars. This auction was proof.
