According to Hello Beautiful, the Maryland-born musician had a difficult few years after leaving The Real daytime talk show. She developed a reputation as problematic after openly arguing with friends and family members. She even spent time in the hospital working on her mental health.

In a 2020 interview with the publication, Braxton stated that it has been a long and difficult road for people to understand that television is television and who she is in her real life is a different thing, but it is ultimately her responsibility to try to be the best example she can be whenever she is seen or portrayed.
