A UCLA men’s basketball team forward got in trouble during the recent match-up against Arizona. The redshirt freshman appeared to spit at Arizona fans and was later arrested on Thursday night.

Mac Etienne, a 6-foot-10 forward on the UCLA men’s basketball team, was arrested and cited for assault for spitting at Arizona fans. This came right after the Bruins’ 76-66 loss to the No. 7 Wildcats on Thursday night in Tucson, Arizona. A video was captured showing all of the things that actually went on.

The video showed Etienne looking toward Wildcats fans in an aggressive manner. He appeared to have spat in their direction as the Bruins were leaving the floor following the game. The footage shows officials then grabbing Etienne and hurrying him away from the scene.

According to ESPN Sport, Etienne was arrested by the University of Arizona police after returning to the locker room. Sgt. Sean Shields from the University of Arizona police told that Etienne was issued a citation for assault with “the intent to injure, provoke or insult” another person. The arrest reportedly went very smoothly as Mac wasn’t put in handcuffs.

Etienne will have a court date in Arizona where he potentially could be allowed to address the citation without traveling back to the state. Information about any exchange between Etienne and fans he allegedly spat on would be released in the official report. A spokesperson for UCLA men’s basketball cleared some air in a statement to the L.A. Times.

“UCLA Athletics is committed to and expects the highest level of sportsmanship, We are aware of the incident involving a student-athlete at tonight’s men’s basketball game, and the matter is under review.”

We have yet to see what happens with Mac after the incident. Since this is not much of an altercation and the charges are not too far-fetched, we can hope to see him in the light again.
