Captain Munnerlyn enjoyed a ten-year career in the National Football League. During that time, he proved a capable defensive back. Munnerlyn finished his career after the 2018 season with 12 interceptions, five of which he returned for scores. Those glory days might seem like decades ago for Captain now.

The Carolina Panthers standout started 85 games throughout his career. TMZ Sports has now learned that Munnerlyn was arrested last month after physically assaulting a woman in North Carolina. The attack left scratches and bruises on the alleged victim.

The incident took place on January 3. The female was struck in the face with Captain Munnerlyn’s foot. She was also strangled by the former football star.

Further details on the nature of the assault were not available. Documents did show that Munnerlyn was bonded out of jail shortly after the original allegations were made. Captain Munnerlyn is due back in court on March 1.

Munnerlyn’s attorney has denied the allegations. Charges levied against him included assault on a female and assault by strangulation. Lawyer James Exum claims that Captain Munnerlyn is actually the victim in the case.

Munnerlyn and his legal team are looking forward to having their day in court. Until more details emerge, any guess as to what could’ve caused the alleged attack is just speculation. Captain Munnerlyn believes he will be able to clear his name before a judge.
